October 31th, 2006

Here we are again, as promised, and here's the rest of the news. First, we've been working hard on two books many of you have been waiting for, and they're getting very close to release. These are Intuition, by KM, and K. Darblyne's Up In The Air. Look for them soon.

Celtic Shadows, the exciting sequel to the best-selling Superstition Shadows, is also in the final stages of production. KC West and Victoria Welsh have outdone themselves with this eerie tale of otherworldly suspense. Here's a quick look at it.

Celtic Shadows

Kim and PJ thought their trip to Wales would be a working vacation and a second honeymoon. They were supposed to help an old college friend of PJ's father discover the identity of an ancient Celtic chieftain.

Instead, their journey turned into a frightening whirl of danger and deception that combined present day criminals and ancient warriors. The former threatened their lives, and the latter demanded justice from beyond the grave.

We're also happy to announce that The Fifth Stage, written by Margaret Helms, will be released this fall as a Blue Feather Book. While this book has been in print for a few years, we think it's been under-publicized and largely under-rated. We're not the only ones, either - here's what editor and author Nann Dunne had to say:

In The Fifth Stage, author Margaret A. Helms deftly alternates past and present events in the life of Claire Blevins to build an enthralling and intriguing story that covers a myriad of emotions: the nervousness and confusion of a first lesbian relationship; the joy and satisfaction of true love; the distress and guilt of losing a lover; the uncertainty of picking up the pieces and reentering the dating game; and the tentative steps toward forging a new relationship. Helms achieves this in near-perfect fashion with rich prose, compelling plot, and lively pace. You fall in love with the strongly-drawn characters and completely empathize with them. The Fifth Stage is an outstanding contribution to lesbian fiction.

Nann Dunne, editor and publisher of Just About Write (www.justaboutwrite.com), author of The War Between the Hearts, and other stories.

Also coming soon is Merker's Outpost, a science fiction story from I. Christie. We'll post more details as this book gets closer to release.

Meanwhile, it's back to work for us. Have a happy, safe Halloween (or Samhain, if that's your bent), and we'll be in touch again soon.

Cheers,
Caitlin and Emily

It's been a while since you've heard from us, but we've been busy while we were "away."

First, Blue Feather Books is proud to announce that two new authors have come on board: Jessica Hayes and Arleen Williams. Jessica Hayes is the author of Wet 'n' Tumble, a charming, character-driven novel that we really think you'll enjoy.

Wet 'n' Tumble

Do you ever get the impression that some people aren't made for love?

Lynn was crushed by the spectacular failure of her last relationship. Devastated and gun-shy, she has managed to stay clear of the dating scene for almost a year when charming, intriguing Morgan walks through the door of the communal laundry room, bringing with her the fresh floral scent of possibility. Too bad Lynn has enough baggage to choke a triple-size industrial-strength front-loader.

Plagued by a vengeful ex-girlfriend, a neurotic rival and some schmuck who keeps stealing her clothes, Lynn-with a little help from her eclectic friends-finds herself wrapped around the agitator in an ongoing spin cycle of thwarted love. Will her quest leave a permanent stain? Or will everything finally come clean in the rinse cycle?

Look for Wet 'n' Tumble in the summer of 2007.

Jessica Hayes is an expatriate Canadian living behind the Orange Curtain in Southern California. When not masquerading as a writer, she holds a nodding acquaintanceship with employment as a web, graphics and publications designer and general dogsbody to the powers that be in her workplace. Aside from the lack of rain and discernible change in seasons, she likes SoCal quite a bit, but still doesn't understand how Ugg boots and earmuffs work when it's fifty degrees outside.
Though she's never attended any formal post-secondary schooling, Jessica strives to keep her mind from stagnating by trying to learn new subjects and skills as frequently as work, her dwindling free time and the eight-month hockey season will allow. She has a passion for the controversial, enjoys good food, music and company, and is frequently caught daydreaming and making shit up.

She can be visited at http://www.jessicahayes.com.

The Thirty-ninth Victim is quite distinct from Blue Feather's previous publications, to date. It's not fiction; it's not alternative. It is searing, painfully intimate and unforgettable.

The Thirty-Ninth Victim

My family is notorious for disappearances.

When I was eleven, my oldest sister, Marleen, was disowned for refusing to get out of bed to go to church one Sunday morning. My parents had her taken away in a police car. My oldest brother, Robert, ran away once too often, and spent his senior year living in his car in the parking lot of our high school. The next sibling, Laureen, was shipped off to live with Grandma, and then disowned for dating the black boys who were her new neighbors. In each case, the rest of the nine children were told nothing. We weren't supposed to talk about it at all, even amongst ourselves.

I was the fifth child, and lucky. I wasn't disowned until I was nineteen.

When the youngest child, Maureen, disappeared from her apartment at the age of nineteen, we didn't talk about that, either. Not even when her remains were found, several years later. Twenty years after her death, I finally learned for certain what had happened to Maureen: she had been the thirty-ninth victim of the Green River Killer.

This is my family's story.

Look for The Thirty-ninth Victim in the summer of 2007.

Arleen Williams has been recording her life in journals since she left home in her late teens. Her wanderings took her to Mexico City, where she completed a bachelor's degree through the University of California while earning a teaching certificate from the National University of Mexico. Arleen has been teaching the English language for over thirty years. She taught international students living in dorms in Seattle, and migratory workers in her living room in Santa Cruz, California. In Caracas, Venezuela, she faked an Irish accent in order to land a position at the British Embassy School, and in Mexico City, her high school students encircled her for her protection during an anti-American protest.
In 1984, the disappearance of her youngest sister brought her back to Seattle. Later, she completed a master's degree in education at the University of Washington and accepted the teaching position she still holds at South Seattle Community College. For the past fifteen years, she and her husband have been remodeling a small 1941 home in West Seattle, where they have raised their only daughter.
The Thirty-Ninth Victim is her first book.

Check back this weekend for another update - we've got lots more to tell you about!

Cheers,
Caitlin and Emily

Hello, everyone!

We're back -- and recovered -- from the GCLS Literary Convention, and are already planning to attend next year's event. The convention was fantastic! The panels and workshops were informative and instructive, and the people were wonderful. We're very proud to be a part of this incredible community and to have been sponsors of this event. We had a great time meeting everyone, whether again or for the first time, and putting still more names and faces together. In addition, book sales were very good, both for our new releases, Primal Touch and Home for the Holidays, and for other titles, as well.

But now, it's back to business. Two titles didn't make it for GCLS. Those are Intuition, by KM, and Merker's Outpost, by I. Christie. They'll be coming out very soon.We know you're getting impatient for Up in the Air, and we promise you it really will be out soon. We have an excellent line-up of titles to follow, including Addison Black and the Eye of Bastet, so stay tuned!

Happy reading and a happy summer to all of you. To our American readers, have a happy and safe Fourth of July.

Warm regards,

Caitlin and Emily.

APRIL

April 14th, 2006

Hello everyone! Spring is here, and so is another Blue Feather update. In fact, we've got several announcements today.

First, Blue Feather Books will be attending the Golden Crown Literary Society Convention, which will be held in Atlanta this year, from June 8-11. We'll have several new releases and are looking forward to seeing everyone, whether again or for the first time.

Look for further event details at www.gclscon.com

Second, we're pleased to announce that StarCrossed Productions now distributes some of the Blue Feather Books titles. Currently available are KM's Undeniable and Considerable Appeal, S. Anne Gardner's For the Love of a Woman, and Mavis Bites, written by You-Know-Who. Look for more titles soon.

Find these titles at www.scp-inc.biz

Speaking of KM -- and Mavis, and more -- Blue Feather Books has an exciting selection of new releases coming up this spring. We're planning to have Intuition, KM's third novel (the sequel to Undeniable and Considerable Appeal) at the GCLS convention, along with Home For The Holidays, a new collection of short stories from Mavis Applewater. We'll also have Primal Touch by Amber Jacobs, and I. Christie's science fiction adventure Merker's Outpost.

Following GCLS, we'll have two books up for release that we know many of you have been waiting for: Up In the Air, K. Darblyne's much anticipated sequel to The Fellowship, and Addison Black and the Eye of Bastet, the equally anticipated sequel to the best selling Black's Magic.

Okay, that's it for today. We'll post release dates as they are confirmed, so stay tuned for more details. See you at GCLS! Happy Easter and/or Happy Passover to everyone!

FEBRUARY

Fe
bruary 17th, 2006

Greetings, Gentle Readers:

We hope you're well, and haven't been working too hard. We're been rather busy ourselves, but mostly with RL issues -- unfortunately! Thus, in order to give them their due, we had to delay production of the titles originally intended for December. We hope you'll agree that it was better to delay them than to rush them to print and compromise their quality.

Things are getting back on track now. Primal Touch, by Amber Jacobs, is nearing completion and Mavis Applewater's PWP III is in its final edit. We've got several more exciting titles staged to follow them, including -- at last! -- K. Darblyne's Up In The Air. We don't have a definite date for that last title just yet, but we hope to have more information soon. Stay tuned for updates and title announcements.

Meanwhile, it's back to work for us....
